The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Edward J. Yahara (Yahare) (MCSN: 473903), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving with Company I, Third Battalion, Twenty-second Marines (Reinforced), First Provisional Marine Brigade, Third Amphibious Corps, during action against enemy Japanese forces on Guam, Marinas Islands, 25 July 1944. When the advance of his company was held up by rifle, machine-gun and mortar fire, Private First Class Yahara helped guide supporting tanks forward to neutralize enemy strong points and, braving enemy fire, ran from one tank telephone to another to designate Japanese targets. His initiative and devotion to duty reflect the highest credit upon Private First Class Yahara and the United States Naval Service.
