The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Delbert G. Tuttle (MCSN: 480041), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving with Company F, Second Battalion, Sixth Marines, SECOND Marine Division during action against enemy Japanese forces on Saipan, Mariana Islands on 15 June 1944. Although wounded in the right shoulder and ordered to retire from combat, Private First Class Tuttle twice brought ammunition to the front lines while under hostile fire and directed the fire of our tanks against the enemy until a second wound forced his evacuation. His courage, initiative and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
