Headquarters, United States Army Forces in the South Pacific Area, General Orders No. 56 (January 22, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star (Army Award) to Private Albert J. Signorelli (MCSN: 309640), United States Marine Corps, for gallantry in action on January 22, 1943, at Guadalcanal. During action in which a company was halted by enemy machine gun fire, Private Signorelli, without regard for his own personal safety, manned his automatic rifle in the face of heavy enemy fire and succeeded in silencing the enemy machine gun which supported an enemy attack. The courage displayed by Private Signorelli enabled his platoon to repel the attack of a force of thirty Japanese and to advance with their company.
