The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Corporal Paul R. Reynolds (MCSN: 931096), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action while serving as a Squad Leader of Company A, First Battalion, Seventh Marines, FIRST Marine Division (Reinforced), in action against enemy aggressor forces in Korea on 3 December 1950. When his company was counterattacked by a numerically superior enemy force, Corporal Reynolds fearlessly led his squad to a favorable position under intense automatic weapons fire and, skillfully deploying his troops and directing effective fire, succeeded in holding despite the tremendous odds. With his sector in danger of penetration by the outnumbering enemy, he continued to move among his men, offering words of encouragement and inspiring them to greater efforts until he was mortally wounded by hostile fire. By his cool and aggressive leadership, courageous fighting spirit and unrelenting devotion to duty, Corporal Reynolds served as an inspiration to his squad in subsequently repelling the vicious onslaught, and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
