    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Winston O’Quin (MCSN: 1221042), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving as a Gunner of a 75-mm. Recoilless Rifle of the Anti-tank Company, Seventh Marines, FIRST Marine Division (Reinforced), in action against enemy aggressor forces in Korea on 8 January 1953. While covering an assault on an enemy stronghold by friendly forces, Corporal O’Quin courageously exposed himself to intense enemy sniper and mortar fire to deliver direct fire against the hostile positions. Although forced to withdraw from his position on several occasions, he returned each time and managed to sustain accurate fire throughout the operation. Seriously wounded by enemy sniper fire and carried from his weapon during the final stages of the fierce action, Corporal O’Quin, by his outstanding courage, daring initiative and unyielding devotion to duty in the face of intense hostile fire, served to inspire all who observed him and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
