The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Platoon Sergeant Bert R. Nave (MCSN: 282569), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving as a Platoon Sergeant in a Medium Tank Platoon, of Company C, Fourth Tank Battalion, FOURTH Marine Division, during action against enemy Japanese forces on Saipan and Tinian, Mariana Islands, from 15 June to 1 August 1944. When his tank was destroyed by antitank projectiles during an attack against enemy artillery fire, Platoon Sergeant Nave changed to another tank and, although wounded, continued the assault. Wounded again when his second tank was destroyed, he again refused medical aid, took up his position in another tank and pressed home his attack through enemy minefield. His courage and devotion to duty reflect the highest credit upon Platoon Sergeant Nave and the United States Naval Service.
