The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Philip C. McCready (MCSN: 419115), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving with Company B, Second Motor Transport Battalion, Service Troops, SECOND Marine Division, in action against enemy Japanese forces on Tinian, Mariana Islands, 13 August 1944. When a member of a Naval construction battalion entered a cave and was wounded by enemy forces occupying the position, Private First Class McCready entered the cave and, although he knew he was exposing himself to enemy fire, brought the wounded man to safety. His courage and devotion to duty reflect the highest credit upon Private First Class McCready and the United States Naval Service.
