The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Moses A. Iadanza (MCSN: 450224), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as Automatic Rifleman serving with the First Battalion, Twenty-Third Marines, FOURTH Marine Division, in action against enemy Japanese forces on Saipan, Mariana Islands, 15 to 17 June 1944. When his platoon was ordered to withdraw from an untenable position, Private First Class Iadanza deliberately moved to an exposed spot in order to direct his automatic rifle most effectively against the enemy and there, in the face of grave danger, continued to deliver vigorous blasts, drawing most of the Japanese fire to himself until he fell, mortally wounded in his heroic and daring effort. By his fearless courage and outstanding technical skill, Private First Class Iadanza was largely responsible for the successful withdrawal of the remainder of his platoon from a hazardous location and his selfless, unwavering devotion to duty was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service. He gallantly gave his life for his country.
