    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant Joseph W. Huff (MCSN: 0-15468), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while attached to Company F, Second Battalion, Seventh Marines, FIRST Marine Division in action against enemy Japanese forces on Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands on 12 June 1945. Fearlessly leading his company in a night attack on enemy held Kunishi Ridge, First Lieutenant Huff reached the crest of the heavily defended ridge at daylight and, exhibiting complete control of the tactical situation, repeatedly exposed himself to intense enemy fire to establish his defense line and direct the fire of his men By his skillful leadership, First Lieutenant Huff contributed materially to the holding of this bitterly contested position, and his courageous devotion to duty was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
