The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Second Lieutenant William G. Hudson, Jr. (MCSN: 0-23574), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as a Platoon Commander, attached to the Second Battalion, Seventh Marines, FIRST Marine Division in action against enemy Japanese forces on Peleliu, Palau Islands from 15 September to 26 October 1944. Although wounded twice during the operation, Second Lieutenant Hudson remained with his platoon throughout the campaign and rendered valuable service in the performance of his seriously wounded; he took over that platoon in addition to his own and, reorganizing that section of our lines, contributed materially to the repulse of all enemy attempts at infiltration. His courageous leadership, fortitude and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
