The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star (Army Award) to Private Ralph E. Hobbs (MCSN: 340544), United States Marine Corps, for gallantry in action on 21 January 1943 at Guadalcanal, Private Hobbs was a member of a platoon on patrol several hundred yards in front of the lines when enemy machine gun fire commenced and wounded a man. Private Hobbs, with the aid of one other Marine, with complete disregard for his own safety and under constant enemy fire, carried the wounded man out of the field of fire.
