The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Henry C. Hauser (MCSN: 333848), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving with a Weapons Company of the Twenty-Third Marines, FOURTH Marine Division in action against enemy Japanese forces on Saipan, Mariana Islands on 27 June 1944. Volunteering for patrol duty to search for an enemy field piece which had been inflicting damage on his company, Private First Class Hauser aided in locating the weapon and, despite wounds sustained when caught in its fire, ran approximately a mile to report the position and summon aid for his wounded patrol leader. His cool courage and selfless efforts in the face of peril and his unfaltering devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
