The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Warren B. Fuller (MCSN: 945880), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving as a Platoon Runner of Company G, Second Battalion, Ninth Marines, THIRD Marine Division, in action against enemy Japanese forces on Iwo Jima, Volcano Islands, 14 March 1945. During an attack when no rocket launcher men were available because of heavy casualties, Private Fuller voluntarily put a rocket launcher into action and, braving heavy enemy rifle and machine-gun fire, succeeded in destroying a hostile pillbox. When his Platoon Leader and non-commissioned officers were wounded, he assumed command of the platoon and exposing himself to intense enemy fire to place his men in a defensive position, succeeded in stopping a hostile counterattack. His outstanding courage and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
