The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V” to Private First Class Henry G. Huff, Jr. (ASN: RA-18314791), United States Army, for heroism in action against the enemy while serving with Company A, 8th Engineer Combat Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division, in action on 2 December 1950, near Yopo-ri, Korea. Private First Class Huff, a member of a security unit, was providing protection for a bridge construction crew on the Taedong River when an enemy force launched a surprise attack. Although a warning was shouted to the remainder of he security unit to withdraw to more tenable positions along the river, Private Huff, with a comrade, voluntarily remained at his forward position which was exposed to heavy enemy automatic weapons and small arms fire. When last seen Private First Class Huff was fearlessly advancing through intense small arms fire. His conspicuous courage was an inspiration to all his comrades and aided materially in repulsing the enemy. Private First Class Huff’s heroism and selfless devotion to duty reflect great credit on himself and the military service.
