Commanding General, Fleet Marine Force Pacific: Serial 48903 (November 16, 1948)

The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain Clinton B. Eastment (MCSN: 0-13906), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as Commanding Officer of Company A, First Battalion, Fourth Marines, SIXTH Marine Division, in action against enemy Japanese force on Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands, on 16 April 1945. When his company came under intense mortar fire and machine-gun fire during an advance on enemy-held Mount Yeatake, captain Eastment went forward to ascertain the direction from which the fire was coming and to adjust his mortar fire on the hostile position. Although painfully wounded, he refused to be evacuated and continued to direct effective fire against the Japanese emplacements until his company could again advance, and then personally directed his company in a determined and vigorous attack which successfully dislodged the enemy from their strong position. After the objective had been seized, he permitted himself to be evacuated for treatment. His courageous leadership and indomitable fighting spirit reflect the highest credit on Captain Eastment and the United States Naval Service.
