The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Carlos Diacetis (MCSN: 419332), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving with the Second Battalion, Second Marines, SECOND Marine Division, in action against enemy Japanese forces on Tinian, Mariana Islands, on 26 July 1944. During the night when his company was attacked from the rear by a group of the enemy, Private First Class Diacetis promptly turned his machine gun around under intense enemy fire and, fighting his weapon skillfully and with courageous determination, repelled three fierce Banzai attacks and continued to fight off the Japanese until he was mortally wounded. Private First Class Diacetis’ splendid technical ability and valiant conduct in the face of grave personal peril were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service. He gallantly gave his life for his country.
