The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Corporal Dennis Cimental (MCSN: 549205), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as a Rifleman, serving with Company A, First Battalion, Fifth Marines, FIRST Marine Division during action against enemy Japanese forces at Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands 3 May 1945. When his company’s advance up a strongly defended ridge was halted by a fiercely fighting enemy hurling grenades and satchel charges from the crest and far side of the hill, Corporal Cimental, accompanied by another Marine inched courageously to the top of the hill under the exploding charges and engaging the hostile forces from his exposed position killed several of them with rifle fire. Corporal Cimental’s daring and unwavering devotion to duty inspired his comrades to renew the assault with fresh vigor and achieve the objective and reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Naval Service.
