The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Platoon Sergeant Harvey C. Leading his platoon in a one-hour attack against the well-organized and well-defended enemy positions, in the face of heavy mortar, machine-gun, rifle and grenade fire, Platoon Sergeant Carbaugh remained with or ahead of the assault squads at all times, covering the entire platoon front, advancing squads and tanks, designating enemy target, attending to the evacuation of seven wounded man and arranging for the replenishment of ammunition.
