The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class William P. Bosley (MCSN: 281498), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving with Company G, Second Battalion, First Marines, FIRST Marine Division, in action against enemy Japanese forces during the assault on enemy-held Peleliu, Palau Islands, 18 September 1944. When a squad leader of his company was seriously wounded near the mouth of an enemy-held cave, Private First Class Bosley volunteered to rescue him. Dashing through the heavy hostile fire to the side of the wounded sergeant, he picked him up on his shoulders and again raced through the enemy fire to cover, thereby saving the injured man’s life. His outstanding courage and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
