Headquarters, 25th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 4204 (June 7, 1968)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Specialist Fourth Class [then Private First Class] Kenneth Dale Schwartz (ASN: US-56709411), United States Army, for gallantry in action on 15 April 1968, while serving as a machine gunner with Company B, 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division on a combat operation in Gia Dinh Province, Republic of Vietnam. After initial assaults on enemy bunkers met with little success, Specialist Schwartz fearlessly assaulted the enemy positions. Under a heavy barrage of enemy RPG2 rocket and small arms fire he continued to lay effective fire upon the enemy until being mortally wounded. His valorous actions enabled his comrades to successfully rout the enemy forces and complete the mission. Specialist Schwartz’s personal bravery, aggressiveness, and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, the 25th Infantry Division and the United States Army.
