The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Aviation Ordnanceman Second Class George Norton Pappas (NSN: 6012112), United States Naval Reserves, for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight against enemy forces on 25 October 1944, east of the Philippine Islands, during a successful torpedo attack on an enemy carrier. He did by his extraordinary coolness in observation, materially aid his pilot in pressing home the attack successfully and in retiring through heavy and accurate anti-aircraft fire, thereafter and made possible very accurate estimates of damage inflicted on the enemy. His courage and skill were at all times in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
