The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Aviation Machinist’s Mate Third Class Donald Parks Jones (NSN: 5770825), United States Naval Reserves, for heroism while participating in aerial flights in operations against the enemy in the vicinity of Korea during the period 22 June 1945 to 27 July 1945. As a gunner and aircrewman of a patrol bomber he performed his duties with skill and valor and materially contributed to the success of attacks which sank a large enemy freighter transport, a large merchant ship and a medium sized merchant vessel; burned two smaller ships and damaged three other vessels. In the face of intense anti-aircraft fire, he inflicted serious damage on the enemy through his accurate gunnery. His skill and courage were at all times in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
