The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Walter H. DuBard, Jr. (ASN: 34637940), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Medical Detachment, 44th Armored Infantry Battalion, 6th Armored Division, in action in the vicinity of Rochlitz, Germany, on 14 April 1945. With no thought for his own safety, he crossed an area swept by intense enemy fire to administer first aid to a wounded soldier during the establishment of a bitterly contested bridgehead. His personal courage and gallantry in action are in keeping with the finest traditions of the United States Army.
