Headquarters, 6th Armored Division, General Orders No. 274 (July 5, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Chester W. Dacus (ASN: 34134295), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company A, 44th Armored Infantry Battalion, 6th Armored Division, in action in France and Belgium during the period 28 July 1944 to 4 January 1945. He has proved himself an able, aggressive leader, possessing a thorough knowledge of the mechanics of Infantry tactics, maintaining a high degree of combat efficiency in his squad. Beginning with engagements near Lessey, France, and later in Luneville, Armaucourt, Leyr, and Chenicourt, France, his leadership was conspicuous in both daring and sound battle judgment to the extent that his squad was able to inflict heavy casualties among the enemy while suffering but a minimum to themselves. His constant gallant service reflects credit to himself and the United States Army.
