(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Lieutenant Colonel (Corps of Engineers) Charles S. Monnier (ASN: 0-353106), United States Army, was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action on 29 February 1944, at Anzio, Italy. During heavy shelling of the port area, Lieutenant Colonel Monnier personally supervised the unloading of two LST’s which had received direct hits. Disregarding exploding shells and fires, he moved among the disembarking trucks and men and by his example and encouragement maintained orderly movement from the stricken crafts.
