(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to First Lieutenant (Armor) Cecil Dea Walston, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with Company A, 23d Tank Battalion, 12th Armored Division, in action against enemy forces in the vicinity of Munchweiler, Germany, on 19 March 1945. After his tank had been disabled, First Lieutenant Walston set out on foot to locate the remainder of his platoon. Without food or rest for three days and nights, and near exhaustion, he was captured by three of the enemy. Regaining his strength, he took a rifle from one of his captors, overcame all three, and took them prisoner and then located his other tanks. He stood guard all night and encouraged his nervous and shaken men. He later succeeded in evacuating his wounded assistant driver. First Lieutenant Walston’s extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
