(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Captain (Infantry) Frank H. Vance (ASN: 0-317954), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving as Commanding Officer of Company B, 2d Battalion, 6th Armored Infantry Regiment, 1st Armored Division, in action against enemy forces at Gafsa, Tunisia, North Africa, on or about 25 March 1943. Captain Vance was mortally wounded while leading his company during a night attack, to take an important hill which was strongly defended by the enemy. Captain Vance’s outstanding leadership, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty at the cost of his life, exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
