(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Lieutenant Colonel (Air Corps) Clinton Utterback True (ASN: 0-20271), United States Army Air Forces, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving as Pilot of a B-25 Medium Bomber and Commanding Officer, 345th Bombardment Group (M), FIFTH Air Force, while participating in a bombing mission on 18 October 1943, against enemy targets at Rabaul. On that date the mission was cancelled because of bad weather, forcing the fighter cover to turn back. Unaware of this fact, Colonel True lead his group and continued to the target, destroying the enemy in a highly successful raid. The personal courage and devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant Colonel True on this occasion have upheld the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the 5th Air Force, and the United States Army Air Forces.
