The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant Leo Grover Taylor (ASN: 20706548), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with Company L, 3d Battalion, 168th Infantry Regiment, 34th Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces from 1 to 5 December 1942, during a raid on the coast west of Bizerte, Tunisia. Sergeant Taylor voluntarily advanced four hundred yards over open terrain in the face of heavy enemy machine gun fire to retrieve a vitally needed radio set. This action permitted the re-establishment of radio communications with other units of the attacking force which aided in the successful withdrawal of his unit from the raid. Sergeant Taylor’s extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 34th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
