Private First Class Silva braved hostile fire from a German tank and crawled to within 10 yards and tossed two hand grenades at the tank, killing the gunner and two of the crew. When two others attempted to crawl out, he killed them also. His extraordinary heroism and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the 26th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
