The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Second Lieutenant (Corps of Engineers) Daniel L. Nutter (ASN: 0-1313784), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with the 25th Armored Engineer Combat Battalion, attached to the 6th Armored Division, in action against enemy forces at the bridge across the Neid Francaise River at Man-sur-Neid, France, on 11 November 1944. Lieutenant Nutter braved intense enemy machine gun, small arms and artillery fire to search for mines and cut wires the enemy had strung to demolitions charges on a bridge at Neid, France. His heroic actions enabled the 6th Armored Division to capture the bridge intact. Second Lieutenant Nutter’s extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty at the cost of his life, exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
