John McKeithen served as Governor of Louisiana from 1964 to 1972, and was the first person to serve two consecutive terms as governor. One of his major accomplishments was convincing state legislators from north Louisiana to support the construction of the Superdome in New Orleans in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

    (Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to First Lieutenant (Corps of Engineers) John Julian McKeithen, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with Company C, 302d Engineer Combat Battalion, 77th Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces on 20 and 21 April 1945. First Lieutenant McKeithen’s extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
