(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Technician Third Grade Henry J. Kucharski (ASN: 32217759), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving as a Medical Aidman with the 47th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces in France, on 11 July 1944. During heavy fighting that had resulted in many casualties lying on the field of battle, Technician Third Grade Kucharski, with bullets whizzing past him, ripped off his Medical Corps armband and waved it overhead and attracted the attention of the German officers. They ceased firing while Technician Third Grade Kucharski appealed to them, some of whom spoke a bit of broken English, to permit the wounded to be evacuated. The enemy agreed to his appeal and held their fire while the wounded were evacuated. Technician Third Grade Kucharski’s extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 9th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
