The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Sergeant Robert F. Kee (ASN: 20457739), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with an Infantry Company of the 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces in France, on 23 July 1944. Sergeant Kee was a member of a patrol assigned to capture prisoners. At the risk of his own life, he exposed himself and diverted enemy fire from the patrol to insure its safe return to friendly lines with a number of prisoners. In a daring attempt to rejoin his comrades, Sergeant Kee became the target of intense and accurate small arms fire and was morally wounded. Sergeant Kee’s extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty at the cost of his life, exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 30th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
