    (Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to First Lieutenant (Medical Corps) Victor Herbert Karpass (ASN: 0-336465), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving as a Medical Officer with the 6th Armored Infantry Regiment, 1st Armored Division, in action against enemy forces at Oran, Algeria, on 8 November 1942. Lieutenant Karpass left his sick bed to take his station in the sick bay of a ship off Africa, and refused to abandon ship, remaining behind to perform an operation on a wounded sailor. He was killed by an enemy shell. First Lieutenant Karpass’ extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 1st Armored Division, and the United States Army.
