Headquarters, Ninth U.S. Army Air Force, General Orders No. 49 (June 7, 1943)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to First Lieutenant (Air Corps) Roger William Jamison (ASN: 0-442143), United States Army Air Forces, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving as Pilot of a B-25 of a Medium Bomber in the 82d Bombardment Squadron, 12th Bombardment Group (M), NINTH Air Force, while participating in a bombing mission on 29 March 1943, against enemy targets in the European Theater of Operations. On that date as his plane was approaching the target it was badly damaged by anti-aircraft fire and almost immediately burst into flames. Although he could have turned back and abandoned the plane, he held his course with dauntless determination and courage, enabling the navigator-bombardier to drop his bombs on the target. He remained at the controls to enable three of his crew to escape by parachute from the doomed aircraft shortly before it plunged into the sea. The personal courage and zealous devotion to duty displayed by First Lieutenant Jamison on this occasion have upheld the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the 9th Air Force, and the United States Army Air Forces.
