(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private First Class Henry T. Hopper (ASN: 35461120), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with the 41st Armored Infantry Regiment, 2d Armored Division, in action against enemy forces on 1 and 2 March 1945, in Germany. During those days, Private Hopper’s unit was cut off by an enemy attack. He single-handedly fired on a group of the enemy, wounding several and driving the patrol back. Volunteering as a bazooka gunner, he fired at an enemy tank, forcing it to withdraw. Spotting a four-man enemy bazooka team, he fired into their midst, killing two of them. The remaining two enemy fired at Private Hopper, wounding him, but he returned their fire and killed an enemy gunner. Private First Class Hopper’s extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 2d Armored Division, and the United States Army.
