Headquarters, FIRST U.S. Army, General Orders No. 50 (March 28, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Donald M. Glogau (ASN: 0-1311880), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with an Infantry Company of the 28th Infantry Regiment, 8th Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces on 1 December 1944, in Germany. When his platoon was halted and pinned down by fire from an enemy machine gun, First Lieutenant Glogau rose to his feet in the face of direct fire and alone stormed the hostile position. As he turned to signal his men to follow him, he was mortally wounded. Struggling the last few yards forward, he hurled a grenade, silencing the weapon and stunning the crew. By his valiant and heroic action, his platoon was enabled to capture the enemy crew and continue its advance. The conduct of First Lieutenant Glogau reflected the highest credit upon himself and the military service.
