The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Private Ersel W. Baker (ASN: 6270583), United States Army, for heroism, not involving actual conflict with an enemy, displayed while serving with the 2d Ammunition Train, in rescuing a comrade from drowning in Quannah Parker Lake in the Wichita Forrest Preserve, Oklahoma, 23 June 1936. Hearing cries for help, Private Baker with utter disregard of his own safety, jumped into the water fully clothed and swam to the point in the lake where the drowning man went down beneath the surface of the water, succeeded in rescuing him and bringing him safely to shore where he administered artificial respiration.
