    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Theodore R. Carter (ASN: 37178412), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Headquarters Company, 2d Battalion, 318th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division, in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 3 April 1945 in Germany. Near Kassel, Germany, Private First Class Carter, despite direct enemy tank fire, left his position of cover to infiltrate three hundred yards into enemy lines and destroy a hostile tank. Then he carried a wounded comrade to safety. Private First Class Carter’s gallant action and devotion to duty undoubtedly saved is company many casualties and was in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflects great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
