Headquarters, 80th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 207 (August 15, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Dukas Tramontanis (ASN: 31315909), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company G, 2d Battalion, 317th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division, in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 28 March 1945 in Germany. While crossing the Rhine River Corporal Tramontanis took charge of an assault boat and inspired the men to keep rowing despite severe hostile fire. Upon reaching shore he organized and deployed the men. Still under enemy fire, he returned to the boat to carry three wounded comrades to safety. His leadership and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
