Germann (ASN: 36768032), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company K, 3d Battalion, 319th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division, in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 5 April 1945 in Germany. When his platoon was held up near Niederkaufungen, Germany, by enemy infantry supported by armor, Technical Sergeant Germann alone flanked the enemy after deploying his men. His fierce attack with rockets, grenades, and rifle fire so depleted the enemy that the remainder were captured easily and the armor forced to withdraw.
