Headquarters, 80th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 129 (May 18, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Captain (Infantry) Edward B. LeRoy (ASN: 0-1292014), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company I, 3d Battalion, 319th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 22 February 1945 in Germany. In an attempt to seize a strategic crossroads near Bierrensdorf, Germany, on 22 February 1945, the attacking platoons were delayed by intense direct enemy machine gun and tank fire from commanding terrain around the objective. Ordering everyone to take cover, Captain LeRoy advanced through an intense artillery barrage to instruct tank and tank destroyer men whom he called forward by radio. His timely and tactically sound plans enabled his men, supported by the added fire power, to take the objective and organize a defense. Captain LeRoy’s courage, aggressiveness, and sincere devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
