The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Frank E. Angellini (ASN: 31430291), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 80th Infantry Division in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 3 April 1945 in Germany. On that date, during the attack on Neiderzwehern, Germany, Staff Sergeant Angellini encountered heavy enemy opposition from a road block within the town. Realizing the seriousness of the situation, Staff Sergeant Angellini crawled under the road block in the face of enemy sniper and rocket fire. Observing an enemy rocket team, he destroyed it with a grenade. Continuing on, he dashed fifty yards to the nearest building where he captured fourteen enemy soldiers. Guarding his prisoners, he continued to snipe at the enemy, allowing his company to establish a bridgehead beyond the road block. The gallant courage and untiring devotion to duty displayed by Staff Sergeant Angellini were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
