The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Daniel H. Simmons (ASN: 0-1049847), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company F, 2d Battalion, 318th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 15 March 1945 in Germany. As leader of an assault platoon in an infantry attack near Frommersbach, Germany, Lieutenant Simmons coordinated and led his platoon with such skill and aggressiveness that seventy-five enemy soldiers were captured, fifty killed, an 88-mm. gun seized, and large stores of material captured without a single casualty. The expert, aggressive leadership and efficiency under fire displayed by Lieutenant Simmons were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
