The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Sam F. Wyatt (ASN: 33225898), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 80th Infantry Division in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 8 November 1944 in France. On that date, after a limited attack into and a planned withdrawal from Craincourt, France, Private First Class Wyatt, an automatic rifleman, voluntarily remained in enemy territory to harass the enemy throughout the night. The following morning his company again attacked the town, while Private First Class Wyatt gave invaluable aid by attacking the enemy from the rear and so confusing them that the town was seized with few casualties to the attackers. Private First Class Wyatt’s courage, aggressiveness, and initiative were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
