Headquarters, 80th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 77 (March 18, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Howard T. Storm (ASN: 35460894), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 80th Infantry Division in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 11 November 1944 and on 23 January 1945 in France and Luxembourg. On two occasions, Sergeant Storm has distinguished himself by gallantry in action with the cannon company of which he was a member. On 11 November 1944, near Bechy, France, while the howitzers were being emplaced, enemy artillery scored a direct hit on an ammunition truck. Disregarding the danger of fire and exploding shells Sergeant [then Private] Storm carried all the wounded from the vicinity of the burning truck. On 23 January 1945, when a driver of a prime mover had been wounded by mine, Sergeant Storm carried him through a heavily mined area to safety. Sergeant Storm’s courage and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
