The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star to Sergeant Frank T. Asaro (ASN: 32297320), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 811th Tank Destroyer Battalion, 80th Infantry Division in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 21 February 1945 in Germany. During an attack on enemy pillboxes in Germany on 21 February 1945, Sergeant Asaro and his crew moved their destroyer over high ground undergoing intense small arms, tank, and anti-tank fire, and through skillful maneuvering drove the destroyer onto an enemy pillbox. Sergeant Asaro’s courage, aggressiveness, and zealous devotion to duty contributed greatly in accomplishing a vital mission and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
