On that date, Staff Sergeant McGuire’s engineer platoon was attacked with a complex ambush. Despite being injured twice due to an Improvised Explosive Device and Rocket Propelled Grenade attack, Staff Sergeant McGuire assumed the duties as Platoon Sergeant, organized a counter attack against insurgent forces, and coordinated casualty evacuation which saved the lives of several wounded Soldiers. Staff Sergeant McGuire’s gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
