The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Wilmot L. Weeks (ASN: 3287943), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 80th Infantry Division in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 10 February 1945 in Germany. On that date, during a rifle company attack through a well fortified and densely wooded area near Biesdorf, Germany, Staff Sergeant Weeks, a squad leader, took command of his platoon after the platoon leader and platoon sergeant had been wounded. Constantly exposing himself to enemy fire, Staff Sergeant Weeks reorganized his platoon of recently assigned men and led them through heavy mortar and artillery fire to successfully assault the objective. Throughout the fire fight he moved from man to man instructing and encouraging them, disregarding his own personal safety. Staff Sergeant Weeks’ courage, aggressive leadership, and sincere devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
